What is Street Fashion?

(photo taken from stylescout.blogspot.com/see links for more)

Street fashion is a term used to describe the style of youth in cities all over the world.  Street fashion is about the individuals creativity and willingness to dress in their own style.  It is not about following a social norm or the current Hollywood trend, street fashion is about stepping outside the box and developing your own taste in fashion.

For each culture there are major street fashion followings and trends.  Every generation has had it's own brush with a viable street trend.  The 60's and 70's brought upon a hippie sub-culture, making a statement to veer away from mainstream society.  The 80's brought us the punk sub-culture, mixing a lot of leather and plaid.  The 90's brought about a large hip-hop sub-culture as well as the hint of a gothic sub-culture that pushed it's way into the new millennium.  Street fashion has always had a hold on the evolution of fashion and has always changed the mainstream fashion world.

Currently, street fashion has taken on a bizarre mix of all the past fashion trends from over the years.  It appears most people are mixing a lot of retro with 80's glam and a tinge of hippie chic.  Skinny jeans and leggings and high-waisted skirts rule the streets.  You see strappy sandals for summer and high healed ankle boots for fall.  Accessories include big glasses, fedoras, and feathered head bands.  Current fashion is a mix of goodwill clothes and high end shoes, it's a love of retro culture with a hint of modern day sass.

Some of the best fashion trends start in Tokyo, Japan which still remains the influence for all street fashion across the globe.  But, Tokyo isn't the only fashion forward city, some of the top cities are Paris, NYC, London, Melbourne, and Seoul.  This is an amazing blog covering all the current street fashion trends from all over the world.
